eLearning credit: students are required to earn two online learning credits to graduate from secondary school, beginning with every student who entered Grade 9 in the 2020-2021 school year. Adult learners entering the Ontario secondary school system in 2023-2024 or later will be required to meet this graduation requirement and may opt themselves out of the requirement. The graduation requirement is intended to support students in developing familiarity and comfort with working and learning in a fully online environment, as well as developing digital literacy and other important transferable skills that will help prepare them for success after graduation and in all aspects of their lives.
Grade 9 and 10 technological education credit: beginning with students entering Grade 9 in September 2024, all students will now be required to earn a Grade 9 or 10 technological education credit as part of their OSSD. This new learning graduation requirement will expose Ontario’s students to at least one technological education course.
Visit the Course Selection page for more information on types of courses, course offerings, PowerSchool login, and more.
Students must complete 40 hours of community involvement. They may begin during the summer months prior to Grade 9 and complete them at any point before their graduation. More information can be obtained by visiting the Community Involvement page.
This test, administered by EQAO and is based on the reading and writing skills a student should have acquired by the end of Grade 9, as outlined in The Ontario Curriculum. These skills are the basis for learning in all subject areas throughout both elementary and secondary school. Students will write the test during the spring of their Grade 10 year. To learn more, visit the EQAO page.
